Hmong language
The Hmong Pahawh alphabet was invented by Shong Lue Yang in 1959. The
mystical of this alphabet lies in its creator announcing it as a result of a
divine revelation, north of Laos, near the border with Vietnam. On the other hand
the different Hmong languages have different names. Three main branches can be
distinguished, to distinguish them more easily you can do it taking into
account the names based on the colors of their traditional costumes:
- Hmong Western: Spoken by ethnic white, blue/green, flowery, etc.
- Hmong North: Reds
- Hmong East: Hmong blacks
In each of the different nations, the Hmong is written in the alphabet
of the region where it is spoken. For example, in China, the Hmong is known as
Miao and written in Chinese characters. On the other hand, in Thailand, it is
written with the Thai alphabet.
Today, the majority of the Hmong people write their language with the
Romanized alphabet (RPA), as does Chinese. But really, it is a language that is
not used much written because the majority of the adult population has not
attended the schools. It is a version of the Latin alphabet, which makes it
more accessible for those who are not so familiar with Asian languages.
